Athlete of the Month Feb 2018: Sophie Austin
10W10Q with Sophie Austin
Welcome to the first Next Plate post of 10W10Q! This month, we are featuring Sophie Austin: Athlete and Coach with Siemens Weightlifting!
One of our club goals for 2018 was to highlight individual athletes, get to know each other better, and increase community involvement. After this post, Sophie will be heading up our Athlete of the Month 10W10Q posts!
10W10Q works like this: We have 10 questions, and each question must be under 10 words. Each answer must be under 10 words. 200 words. Short, sweet, and hilarious at times.
Sophie began training with us near the end of 2016 and now, over 2 years later, she is a FORCE within the club! Always laughing during Friday Night at the Barrr and lifting with focus and intensity during Sunday Sessions, she is an excellent role model for all our athletes.
She also enjoys telling people what to do, so she makes a wonderful coach!
Alright lets get the party started!
1. Why do you lift?
Friendship, strength, discipline, developing tenacity and patience, stress relief
2. What is your favourite lifting moment so far?
Nailing my last CJ at Kilo when I didn't think I could
3. What moment have you learned the most from?
Not reaching a goal I had set for myself this year.
4. What did you learn?
Success in weightlifting is more than adding kg's to your total
[YES! Its all about the process!]

"Comparison is the thief of joy"
[Yes. Just... YES!]
6. What is your spirit animal?
Donkey- strong, stubborn, awkward, cute as heck
7. What has been a ‘game changer’ for you in 2017/18?
Focus on nutrition as fuel, not comparing myself to others
8. What do you do outside of weightlifting life?
Shoot guns, hang out with friends & family, kittens, food, Church
[Shoot guns... Just remind the lifters of that when you start coaching!]
9. What are your goals for WL this year? (Athletic or coaching)
Greater consistency in lifts. Complete NCCP 1 club coach.
10. What is your current favourite training jam?
